Subj: Your question about TIROS data

That O code for proprietary means that it is CDAW proprietary. One reason for
this is that these data sets frequently contain data that has not been
verified by the PI, although certain parameters will have been verified. A
second reason for this code is that these data are only for a very short
period of special interest to one or more CDAW studies. The CDAW periods
were selected to study particular events, and thus usually cover only about 12
to 18 hours of time, although sometimes the submitted data covers a few days.
Thus an indication in the catalog that the data starts on a particular day and
year and ends 3 years later might result from a 16-hour interval on the start
day, and an 18-hour interval on a particular day 3 years later, with no data
in between.

For this requester, it would be okay to send the data, but I think it would
not be of much use for the intended purpose because of the very short timespan
of data.

I would suggest that the requester consider also the similar Solar Environment
Monitor instruments flown on the NOAA series of spacecraft. We don't have that
data either. The requester should go to the following NOAA website:
http://nndc.noaa.gov/?http://nodc.nndc.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/ns/NOAAServer?stype=HTML2
That is all one URL, although it is broken up into two lines here. This is a
search-engine page; select at the upper right to search by keyword, then
select the Keyword: Space Environment Monitor

Or, the requester might send e-mail to <questions@nvds.noaa.gov to inquire
about the TIROS and NOAA data.
