Solar and Geomagnetic Activity Years after Minimum

The Sunspot Numbers for cycles 15, 22 and 23

Figure 1 shows the monthly sunspot numbers for cycles 15 (green), 22 (blue) and the solar cycle 23 (red). The latest monthly value is for November, 2001. The maximum of solar cycle 23 was predicted to take place in 2000.

 

Figure 2 shows the number of proton events for cycles 22 and 23. The proton flux reached 40 000 pfu on October 20, 1989 and 43 000 pfu on March 24, 1991 during cycle 22. The proton flux reached 24 000 pfu on July 15, 13 300 pfu on November 9, 2000 and during 2001 on September 24, 12 900 pfu, on November 4, 31 700 pfu and 18 900 pfu on November 22 during cycle 23.


Figure 3 shows the max value (10 MeV pfu) each month for the proton events during cycles 22 and 23.
 

Figure 4 shows the monthly geomagnetic activity index Ap for cycles 22 and 23.
