1. Space Weather Fair during the 5th European Space Weather Week
**********************************************************************

From: P.Vanlommel on behalf of the ESWW5 Programme Committee

The aim of this special event is to bring together end-users and service providers in an informal, interactive environment with a view to encouraging dialogue and ultimately making connections leading to new user-driven services and products.

Some spaces are still available for exhibitors so we would like to encourage European service providers, and potential service providers, to consider attending the meeting and presenting their activities. We expect a lively event with, this year, a focus particularly on GNSS, offshore drilling and geomagentism related services, complementing the respective plenary sessions. Services covering other aspects are also more than welcome.

The fair will take place during the splinter and poster sessions:

Tuesday 18th Nov 14:00 – 19:00
Wednesday Wednesday 19th Nov 13:30 – 15:00

Facilities provided include a table & chair plus internet connection. A poster board can be supplied on request. Participation in the fair is included in the ESWW registration fee.

Space is limited, so please contact Petra Vanlommel for more information as soon as possible.

2. SEENoTC Workshop on Data Sharing, Experiments, Flight Opportunities
and Lessons Learned, 13-15 October 2008, IAS Toulouse
**********************************************************************

From: Giovanni Santin

This is the First Announcement and Call for Papers for the "Workshop on Data Sharing, Experiments, Flight Opportunities and Lessons Learned". The workshop will take place on 13-15 October 2008 at Institut Aéronautique et Spatial (IAS, Toulouse, in the vicinity of CNES). The event is organised under the Space Environments and Effects Network of Technical Competences (SEENoTC, http://space-env.esa.int/index.php/SEENoTC.html). It would be a pleasure for us to welcome you at the IAS for this event to discuss European developments in the domain.

BACKGROUND & SCOPE

There is a number of existing and planned European radiation, plasma, and other space environments and effects experiments. The functions of these devices range from simple engineering-oriented instruments to effects experiments, to monitors intended for diagnostics purposes and operational evaluation, and to science-class instruments for providing detailed information on the spectral, directional, and other characteristics of ionising radiation, plasma, and other environments in space. With future missions in navigation, telecommunications, exploration, science, and GMES domains flying in severe environments and carrying highly sensitive components and systems, the need for such instrumentation and experiments is increasing. It is increasingly important to identify potential flight opportunities at an early stage to facilitate the selection and flight of such experiments in the relevant environments. Data sharing and lessons learned-type of activities among the European partners also need to be encouraged and further developed.

This Workshop is proposed under the auspices of the Space Environments and Effects Network of Technical Competences (SEENoTC), established to further cooperation in Europe, and is one in a series of topical workshops started in 2006 with a Workshop on Engineering Tools.

Scope
The intention of this workshop is to provide a venue for discussing the latest developments on space plasma and radiation environments and effects experiments, to examine possible flight opportunities for such experiments, and to establish the necessary technical and management steps necessary to ensure collaboration on future data analyses, databases, data sharing, and lessons learned from flight experience. It will also allow further discussion and capture of explicit experiment needs and further the harmonization of instrument development, flight plans and data exploitation.

**********************************************************************

From: Giovanni Santin

This is the First Announcement and Call for Papers for the "6th Geant4 Space Users' Workshop". It would be a pleasure for us to welcome you at the workshop, which will be hosted by INTA and will take place on 20-22 May 2009 at the Vincci SoMa Hotel, Madrid, Spain. An associated special Geant4 session will be held at INTA Headquarters on 19 May.

Background
The Geant4 particle transport toolkit is jointly developed by a world-wide Collaboration and is intended for a wide range of applications in HEP, medical field, and space physics and engineering. In recent years, space and astrophysics has become a significant user category (see http://geant4.esa.int), with applications ranging from instrument and detector response verification to space radiation shielding optimization, component effects, support of scientific studies, and analysis of biological effects. The various domains include:

Topics
This edition of the workshop is focused on new results on:

Registration and abstract submission are now open from the workshop website (http://www.inta.es/g4suw2009/).

4. Modern Challenges in Nonlinear Plasma Physics: A conference honoring
the career of K. Papadopoulos", June 15-19, 2009, Halkidiki, Greece
**********************************************************************

From: Dimitri Vassiliadis

MEETING: "Modern Challenges in Nonlinear Plasma Physics:
A conference honoring the career of K. Papadopoulos" June 15-19, 2009, Sani Resort, Halkidiki, Greece

First Announcement

In the last three decades theoretical and experimental progress has led to a substantial integration of nonlinear effects in modeling and understanding of plasma dynamics. Particle acceleration mechanisms, collisionless shocks, magnetic reconnection, and flow and wave turbulence are only a few of the facets of complex dynamics in space or laboratory plasmas. Moreover, the realistic behavior of plasmas in geospace, solar, and fusion environments is modulated by strong interactions with adjacent plasmas or boundaries. Large- scale coherence emerges even in weakly-coupled, multi-scale plasmas. Accurate modeling and prediction of nonlinear plasma systems has demanded development of new theoretical and numerical methods. The meeting will review recent key developments in these areas and help chart the exciting future of nonlinear plasma science.
