1. Call for Abstracts for COSPAR-IAA Session on Space Weather:
Research and Applications
*****************************************************************
From: Eamonn Daly
COSPAR-IAA Session on Space Weather: Research & Applications 2002
World
Space Congress, Houston, Texas, October 17-19, 2002
This session forms part of the 2002 World Space Congress (WSC) which
will
take place in Houston, Texas in October 2002.
This session will cover the scientific understanding of the space environment
and the
application of this understanding to the environmental effects on space-based
and
ground-based systems. Areas of interest include: solar, interplanetary,
cosmic-ray,
magnetospheric, ionospheric and atmospheric research, as well as research
on the
coupling of these regions. Space weather applications of interest include:
radiation
effects on spacecraft and on humans, spacecraft charging, spacecraft
drag, navigation
and communications effects, effects on aircraft and aircrew, and the
effects on
ground-based systems. On-going efforts to establish methods to deal
with effects will
be covered, as well as lessons learned from past experience.
The theme of this session "Space Weather: Research & Applications"
has been
chosen to be very interdisciplinary. The session will focus on those
aspects of the
space environment which give rise to effects and effects related specifically
to space
weather phenomena. Other events at WSC may deal in more detail with
research of
the specific phenomena behind these effects.

2. CORRECTION (closing date). Invitation to Tender: Radiation
Environment
Research from Multiple Monitors
*****************************************************************
From: E. Daly
This activity will analyse the data from the various European radiation
monitors in a co-ordinated fashion to prepare a unified database and
further exploit and disseminate the data.
The AO (3858) has a closing date of 8 May.
